From R&P News comes word that a new rubber recycler, Watson Brown HSM Canada Ltd., has opened its first rubber recycling facility in North America, in Mississauga.
While there are many recyclers active in the market, this company has an interesting approach in that it takes surplus material in the form of reject parts, flash, trim, etc., and devulcanizes the material through a “mechanochemical” process before returning it to the original customer for blending back into virgin compound, and molding more product. This closed-loop aspect presumably allows the customer to make use of scrap material while ensuring that the recycled material is compatible with virgin material.
